What We Believe
- We believe that God is so great that He cannot be understood comprehensively by His creatures. He can be known only through what He has revealed of Himself.
- We believe that something of the greatness of God is revealed in the magnificence and beauty of creation.
- We believe that God has spoken through the writers of the Hebrew Scriptures of the Tenach (Old Testament) and the Greek Scriptures of the New Testament. He has acted in the history of His people and those acts are recorded in and interpreted by the Scriptures. God's supreme self-revelation is through Messiah Yeshua, who is the Word of God.
- We believe that these Scriptures are to be received as if God had been heard to speak them. They are our only authority for faith and practice.
- We believe that God is one. He eternally exists in three distinct and equal persons -- as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- each possessing the nature and perfections of deity, as well as the characteristics of personality.
- We believe that God created all things originally perfect, and humankind morally good, with free will to choose to obey God. As a result of their disobedience to God, sin and death came upon the human race. Now we are all born with an inclination towards sin, and in everything we do we fall short of God's perfect standard.
- We believe that God made an everlasting covenant with Abraham in which He showed His plan to form a people for Himself, to give them a land, and to bless all the nations through Abraham and his seed.
- We believe that the coming of a Saviour is both promised and foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Moses and the prophets point forward to a greater deliverer, a greater prophet. The sacrifices showed the need for sin to be dealt with effectively and permanently. The great King David anticipated the coming of One anointed with the Spirit who will reign for ever.
- We believe that the One who in Hebrew is called Yeshua and in English is called Jesus is the promised Anointed One, the Messiah.
- We believe that Miriam conceived supernaturally, by the work of the Holy Spirit. Thus the eternal Son of God took to Himself human nature. Yeshua was both truly God and truly man and was therefore uniquely qualified to mediate between God and the human race. Yeshua's words are the words of God. He never sinned.
- We believe that in His death He became the ultimate fulfillment of the sacrifices; that He bore our punishment so that we could have peace with God, for "the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6).
- We believe that on the third day after His death Yeshua rose again physically, leaving the tomb empty. After forty days of appearing to His disciples and teaching them, he ascended into heaven. He then began His reign as the promised messianic King. The community of believers recognises Him as the sovereign LORD.
- We believe that it is the work of God the Holy Spirit to bring us to benefit personally from what Yeshua has achieved. Through the message about Messiah, He gives new life and saving faith.
- We believe that forgiveness of sin and a right relationship with God is attainable only through Yeshua.
- We believe that those who die without having received forgiveness of sins through Yeshua suffer eternal punishment. Both Jews and Gentiles need to turn from sin and disobedience and to trust in Yeshua alone to make them right with God. One day Yeshua will return to earth, and every eye will see him. He will judge the world and reign as King.
